Many new things have happened this year. We now have 501C3 covering by the International Association for New Science, courtesy of its founder Bob Siblerud. Also, we are now the “Northern Colorado Observances of the International Hour For Peace.” Yep, that’s plural.
Fort Collins began observing the Hour For Peace in 1986, the first year it began globally, and has done so every year since then. Different organizations were involved, but there was one single event in the city and often it was quite an extravaganza. About four years ago, Whole Life Center For Spiritual Living started having a simple, meditation–only observance of the event; no theme, no program, no speakers; just lovely, quiet focus on peace for the new year. I was pleased that folks in Fort Collins had their choice of two completely different styles of events.
This year we’ve expanded to Loveland and Greeley. Many dedicated peacemakers have made the drive to Fort Collins in the middle of the night and in the dead of winter year after year and are now glad to have an event in our own communities.
In summary, with this new paradigm, we can have numerous observations of the International Hour For Peace all over the area and share the nonprofit covering, the website, the theme, the logo, artwork, posters, publicity, or whatever resources the individual community needs.
If you’re interested in participating in this year’s Hour For Peace in any way … by hosting or helping with an event in your home, church or community, please contact the coordinator Victoria Gardner, 970-663-9001, cell 970-227-1539, drvickie@att.net. She has helped many communities set up an International Hour For Peace observance, and it’s actually pretty easy. Just remember, “Peace is in our hands.”
Whether it’s a huge extravaganza of 600 people or more, or simply“two or more gathered together” in the name of peace, our goal is for folks to not only pray for and focus on World Peace and Inner Peace during that magical hour, but also to connect with people, ideas and resources empowering them to create and practice peace all year long.
The 28th Annual Fort Collins observance of the International Hour For Peace will be held at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 916 West Prospect Road, North side of Prospect just east of Shields. All peacemakers and all paths to peace, secular and sacred, are honored and welcome!
The program includes the John Randolph Price World Healing Meditation along with music, prayers, speakers and resources from a variety of local faith, peace and humanitarian groups. Guest speaker Claude Swanson, Ph.D. Physicist, will talk about the science behind group prayer … how and why it works. And a special tribute will be paid to local peacemaker Rev. Dr. Hugh Sanborn who achieved eternal peace this year.
The first Loveland observance of the 28th Annual International Hour For Peace will be held at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 2919 North Wilson, Northwest corner of North 29th and Wilson. All peacemakers and all paths to peace, secular and sacred, are honored and welcome!
The program includes the John Randolph Price World Healing Meditation along with music, prayers, speakers and information from a variety of local faith, peace and humanitarian groups. The program features a candle lighting ceremony, and tributes to Nelson Mandela, John F. Kennedy, Peace Pilgrim, and Martin Luther King. It will also have a “sneak preview” of the Martin Luther King Day celebration in Loveland on January 20th, 2014.
The first Greeley observance of the Hour For Peace is hosted by Audrey Burbridge. Space is limited, so contact her at 720 771-6017, [email protected] for the address and a reservation. This community event includes the John Randolph Price World Healing Meditation, along with music, personal prayers, and Peace Supporting Intentions.
Participation in the December 31st International Hour for Peace is a way for area residents to join millions of people all over our planet at Noon Greenwich Mean Time for prayer, meditation, music, readings, dialogue, etc. focusing on world peace and inner peace for the coming year. When many minds join together with the intention of creating peace in the hearts of all people on earth, world peace happens! As Margaret Mead stated, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
A correspondent from Italy wrote, “This is our ‘Super Bowl,’ and we plan for the December 31st event just as families and friends in your country anticipate coming together in their homes to watch that media event in January. The victory we see, however, is not one–sided. The prize is peace for all people.”
“Peace is not something you wish for. It's something you make,
something you do, something you are … and something you give away.”
Robert Fulghum
